The franchise partnership between Houchens Industries and Which Wich sandwich company has seen much success in recent years. Now with 7 locations across Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee, the stores continue to perform well and provide a fresh take on the restaurant experience in our Crossroads IGA locations.
Dustin Griffiths, director of real estate for Which Wich, said these locations are among the first in Southcentral Kentucky for the chain, which has over 500 locations in 39 states and 12 countries. Founded in Dallas in 2003, Which Wich has been franchised since 2005. In 2007, it was ranked as the fastest-growing restaurant chain concept with 50 operating stores or less. In 2009, the chain ranked as the sixth fastest-growing concept in the industry, according to Restaurantchains.net. Griffiths said the chain continues to grow by some 50 stores per year.
Which Wich is distinguished by its unusual ordering system. Customers use a red Sharpie marker to place their order on pre-printed sandwich bags, selecting sandwiches from 10 categories and also selecting toppings. The sandwiches are delivered in the personalized bags, which customers are encouraged to decorate and then hang on a community wall.
In addition to the unique and fun way of ordering, Which Which offers a quality selection of sandwiches, wraps, salads and breakfast foods. The Wicked, one of the very first sandwiches offered by the 15+ year old brand and one of the brand’s most popular signature items, features turkey, ham, roast beef, pepperoni, and bacon, plus the choice of three cheeses and any additional toppings. A must try for anyone with an appetite for a great sandwich!
There are no current plans for Houchens to open any other franchised Which Wich location at this time. But the possibility is wide open for future locations, especially if sales continue to do well as they are now.
